Fire damages unit in French Quarter Apartments

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Residents of an apartment in Jeffersonville are without a home after a Saturday night fire damaged their building, officials say.

Eric Hedrick, of the Jeffersonville Fire Department says crews were called to the French Quarter Apartments off of Middle Road in Jeffersonville at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday after a report that smoke was coming out of the windows of one of the units.

Hedrick says the fire was mostly contained to a bedroom on the second floor of the apartment complex. He says firefighters think the fire started around the bed.

Smoke traveled throughout the building and residents had to be evacuated, but only one unit was seriously damaged. The residents of that unit could not return on Saturday night.

No tenants were injured, but one firefighter was taken to Clark Memorial Hospital to be checked out for smoke inhalation.

Police and fire crews are investigating the incident.
