LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 16-year-old North Bullitt High School sophomore is in custody after students reported seeing him with a gun this morning.
According to Jaime Goldsmith with Bullitt County Schools and Sgt. Mike Murdoch from the Bullitt County Sheriff's office, it wasn't actually a gun, but two pieces of a toy gun -- a slide and a handle of an "airsoft" type pellet gun.
Police were called to the bus and the student was taken into custody.
Goldsmith explained, "A look-alike weapon on school grounds is the same as a weapon. He may not have had the whole thing showing, but he had the handle of it, which appeared to be a real weapon to people on that bus, which was cause for concern."
Goldsmith says the school day continued as normal, and no special precautions were taken.
The school's principal sent electronic information to parents and planned to send a note home with students explaining the situation.
The student who was arrested faces charges of terroristic threatening, wanton endangerment, and menacing.
