JEFFERSONVILLE, IND. (WDRB) -- Jeffersonville, Indiana's mayor was forced Wednesday to address rumors of infidelity and reports of a fight with his wife that happened behind closed doors Tuesday in his City Hall office.
That fight ended with his wife bleeding and the police being called.
"My wife Vicki and I are going through a divorce," Mayor Mike Moore said Wednesday. Court records say Vicki Moore went to see her husband to retrieve a password for airline miles and things quickly became heated after he asked her to leave.
But Mayor Moore insists, "At no time did the incident become physically violent."
That's not what the police report says. Vickie Moore told officers of punching and kicking, saying she didn't know who threw the first blow. She apparently cut her thumb when she smashed a glass frame against a wall.
Police arrived to blood-stained stairs leading to the mayor's office but the city's First Lady was already gone. Moore said Wednesday, "I regret this incident happened and take full responsibility for my involvement. I want to sincerely apologize to the citizens of Jeffersonville and the employees here at City Hall.
The mayor filed for divorce in October after 20 years of marriage.
There have been rumors of infidelity, but when the mayor was asked about that, he replied, "I have not and I will not dignify anymore rumors. If someone has facts and they want to come to a public meeting, then bring it on."
Its been a rocky three months for Moore. In addition to the divorce, he fired the city's communication director and filed a lawsuit against the City Council.
WDRB News asked City Councilman Matt Owen whether anyone on the council has asked Indiana State Police or any other agency to look into the incident. His reply: "At this time, I don't think anyone on the council has been involved in any way."
Neither Mrs. Moore nor her attorney returned our attempts to get comment. The mayor says there will be no charges filed against either party, adding, "I'm satisfied that we're doing good work for the people of Jeffersonville and sometimes you have to deal with people that just want to do the game of dirty politics."
The Moores have three school age children. Their divorce is still pending. A special judge has been assigned to the case.
