U of L Law School receives largest gift in its history

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The University of Louisville Law School has received the largest gift in its history.  Sue Ellen Ackerson and her family made a donation of nearly $1 million to honor Robert Ackerson, her late husband.

He was a law school graduate and founded the Ackerson and Yann Law Firm.

The money will be used to operate the student-run law clinic, which didn't have a source of funding before now.  Since 2009, the clinic has matched law students with clients in need of legal representation and advice.

Ackerson said Friday, "It's just so wonderful and such an honor for me and our family to be a part of this, of giving back to the community and offering services with my husband's name, in memory of my husband."

The clinic has handled more than 500 cases.
