Identity of victim released in West Market Street fatal shooting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are investigating after a fatal shooting Monday afternoon in the city's west end.

It was the second fatal daytime shooting in two days.

The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Dante Newsome. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the shooting happened on the porch of a home at 40th and Market. That's where officers found Newsome, who had been shot in the head multiple times.

Police don't know if Newsome lived at the residence where he was found. We're told he was a graduate of Shawnee High School.

While LMPD homicide officers were investigating, distraught family and friends began arriving on the scene.

One day earlier on Dec. 23, 19-year-old Kenneth Forbes Jr. was gunned down in the parking lot of a liquor store in the 4000 block of Dixie Highway.

Police are still looking for suspects in both murders.

Anyone with information on either case is asked to call the anonymous LMPD crime tipline at 574-LMPD (574-5673).
