LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- No one was injured in a fire early Wednesday afternoon that damaged an apartment complex in Jeffersontown and displaced several families.
The fire started shortly after noon in an upper floor of the apartment complex in the 200 block of Stoke On Trent Street. No one was in the apartment when the fire started.
Everyone inside the apartment complex made it out safely, but 12 units were evacuated due to smoke and water damage.
Other apartment residents say they hope their neighbors have renter's insurance. "It's very scary," said Sandra Milburn, who lives in another part of the complex. "The apartments are old, so it kind of makes you wonder, but I'll definitely be going out and getting some renter's insurance.
Jeffersontown fire officials say they found an injured dog under a bed in one of the apartments. Several other dogs and cats were also found wandering outside the complex after the fire and their owners were being sought.
Arson investigators were trying to determine the cause of the blaze. We'll have an update coming up on WDRB News.
