LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Firefighters say a man injured in an apartment fire may have tried to put it out himself before calling for help.
Firefighters were called to the apartment complex in the 500 block of Zorn Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Fire officials at the scene told WDRB the fire spread because the man didn't call firefighters immediately.
"We think that he may have tried to fight it," said Lt. Col. Jeff Botner with Louisville Fire & Rescue. "It might have caused some of the reason the fire may have extended beyond the apartment or may have got a head start on us."
The man was taken to the hospital with burns, but there's no word yet on his condition. No other injuries were reported.
The fire caused heavy damage to the apartment and forced everyone out of the building.
Traffic was blocked during the evening commute while firefighters battled the blaze.
