Former state representative Hatcher dies

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Former state Rep. E. Porter Hatcher Jr. of Louisville has died. He was 76.

Hatcher served 12 years, from 1987 to 1999, representing west Louisville in the Kentucky House. Before that, he served as a Louisville alderman and was a popular politician for more than 20 years while operating an insurance business.

His political career ended when state officials determined that he failed to purchase insurance for clients who had paid premiums. He received five years' probation after pleading guilty to insurance and campaign-finance fraud.

Hathaway & Clark Funeral Home Inc. said Porter died Wednesday. Services were set for Monday at St. Stephen Church in Louisville.
