Damages sought in Eggner's Ferry Bridge collapse

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Kentucky business owners, residents, and state officials are seeking damages in connection with the partial collapse of the Eggner's Ferry Bridge nearly a year ago.

A cargo ship carrying space rocket components for NASA struck Eggner's Ferry Bridge January 26, 2012.  No one was on the bridge at the time.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is seeking $7.1 million in damages, which is the largest amount among the $7.8 million sought by businesses and residents near the accident site in western Kentucky.

The company that owns the cargo ship has asked a federal judge to rule it was not responsible for causing the collapse.
