Governor Beshear less than optimistic on passing casino gambling

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says he is less than optimistic about the odds of passing a constitutional amendment on casino gambling this legislative term.

He says lawmakers are facing a lot of other tough issues in the session that's scheduled for only 30 days, and he's not sure whether there will be time for the casino gambling amendment.

Proponents have said Kentucky could collect more than $250 million in one-time license fees by allowing casinos to open, and that taxing casinos could generate hundreds of millions more a year for government programs and services.
