LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Big news tonight for the new Ohio River Bridges--a federal lawsuit against the project has been settled.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation and River Fields filed the suit in 2009, questioning whether environmental, historic preservation and other regulations had been properly followed.
Under the settlement, Kentucky and Indiana will create a $1.7 million fund that will be used for historic preservation efforts in areas affected by the bridges.
The deal also calls for more public meetings about the project, and other commitments, like protecting and relocating historic homes in Jeffersonville.
Construction on both the East End and downtown bridges is expected to begin this summer, and be finished in 2016.
