MOUNT VERNON, Ind. (AP) -- Investigators believe a fire that killed three people in a small southwestern Indiana city started in or near a clothes dryer.
Black Township Fire Department Chief Jay Price tells the Evansville Courier & Press that investigators believe the fire that raced through a house in Mount Vernon early Friday was accidental. Price is also Posey County coroner.
The fire killed 27-year-old Amanda Robb, her 5-year-old daughter, Aubrey Robb, and 15-year-old cousin Bailey Robb. Five other people escaped the two-story house in the 6,500-person Ohio River city about 20 miles west of Evansville.
Price says it's unclear whether smoke alarms were present.
Flowers, a Hello Kitty doll and other memorials were left on the home's doorstep. The American Red Cross is assisting the surviving family members.
