Running can be the perfect workout for exercise beginners. Keith Kaiser learns from some experts how to get the most out of a running routine and prepare for the KDF Marathon and miniMarathon.
The first meeting of the Norton Sports Health Kentucky Derby Festival Training Program will take place January 17, at 6 p.m. at Butch Charmoli Gym at duPont Manual High School. This free 14-weeks of runs and 16 weeks of training tips and preparation is intended to benefit runners training for the Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon on April 27, 2013.
The program will give runners an opportunity to talk with professionals regarding nutrition, training tips, injury prevention and education. The Training Program meeting will include distribution of a free training packet and technical shirt for each runner; introduction of the training program medical director, athletic trainers and nutritionists; an overview of the miniMarathon and Marathon; guest speakers and a question-and-answer session.
The first 700 pre-registered runners who attend orientation on Jan. 17 are guaranteed a FREE technical shirt.
