Early flu outbreak in Indiana kills seven

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- An early flu outbreak in Indiana has already killed seven people.  The state is suffering from what some believe is the worst flu outbreak in years, with the illness spreading across the state sooner than usual.

Health officials say the flu circulating now is an H3N2 virus that tends to be more severe than some other types of the flu.  Five of those who died were older than 65 and two were under 18 years old.

Doctors say it's not too late to get a flu shot since people are protected about two weeks after receiving the vaccine.
