LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mason Plumlee of Duke has a comfortable lead in the college basketball national player of the year vote by ESPN.com.

Plumlee lead Michigan point guard Trey Burke and Doug McDermott of Creighton.

Indiana center Cody Zeller, the pre-season front-runner, had slipped to fourth while Russ Smith of Louisville is fifth. Zeller received two of 63 first-place votes while Smith earned one.

Plumlee, an Indiana native, earned 30 first-place votes and 126 overall points. Burke had 13 first-place votes and 99 overall votes.

Zeller was named on 12 of 63 ballots, while Smith was recognized by nine voters.

No other local players earned a vote.
