"Gorilla" passes out bananas to encourage fitness

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- There's no monkeying around when it comes to getting fit, at least according to a person in a gorilla suit:  "Nobody passes up a free banana -- have a great day."

That person, along with workers from the YMCA, passed out free bananas this morning.  The idea is to encourage people to get their day off to a healthy start, and try to get people signed up to joining the gym.

Megan Snider of the YMCA explains, "We're just going to different corners around downtown and kind of brightening their morning a little bit."

The "Y" plans on handing out a few hundred more bananas tomorrow morning.  Workers will be stationed near Fourth and Fifth streets and Main and Market from 7:30 to 8:45.
