LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are investigating after they say deputy in Crawford County, Indiana shot himself in the head.
Indiana State Police officials say 26-year-old Jesse Belcher was found with a gunshot wound to the head at his home in English around 2:30 a.m. Friday.
According to ISP officials, Belcher finished his shift Thursday night around 10 p.m. A few hours later, sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m., Belcher phoned another deputy. When that deputy was unable to reach Belcher after the call, he became concerned for his welfare, so he and another deputy went to his residence to check on him.
When they entered Belcher's home they discovered he had shot himself in the head with a handgun.
The Crawford County Sheriff and other deputies were at University Hospital while Belcher was being treated.
