LOUISVILLE Ky. (WDRB) -- An employee of a JCPenney Outlet Store has been arrested after police say she stole over $800 from her employer.

According to an arrest report, 19-year-old Fathiyya R. Effinger worked for the JCPenney Outlet Store on Preston Hwy., near Phillips Lane, earlier this month, when an investigation determined that she had been stealing.

Police say store security witnessed her remove $20 from a cash register. A subsequent investigation allegedly revealed that she had loaded a total of $497 onto gift cards that she didn't pay for. Police say she planned to use the gift cards for herself.

After being confronted about the alleged thefts, police say Effinger admitted to taking an additional $300 from her employer.

She was arrested on Thursday afternoon and charged with theft.
