Thieves targeting homes in the Highlands

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Thieves are targeting homes in the Highlands, on a street where public figures such as Mayor Greg Fischer and Priscilla Barnstable Brown live.

There have been six burglaries in the past week.

On Saturday, thieves emptied out a home while the owner was doing yard work. Police believe they jumped on an opportunity when they saw the back door open.

"Everything was gone up into the drawers took all jewelry any kind of box with memorabilia in it just everything was gone they weren't discriminating as long as it was small," says Jodie Morgan, the homeowner.

Another woman says she has never had any issues in the neighborhood until New Years Day. That's when someone broke in the backdoor and left with expensive family jewels and electronics.

"This is my sanctuary and it's been violated and it's very disturbing to not see more results to catch these people," said Janice Carter Levitch.

Levitch is taking extra steps to secure her home. She posted signs in each window, and installed cameras around her property.

If you have any information about these burglaries, call the police tip line at 574-LMPD.
