LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man allegedly caught shoplifting at a local Target store tried to pose as a dead man, according to authorities.
Authorities say 39-year-old Gary B. Burns was at the Target near the corner of Bashford Manor Lane and Bardstown Road Wednesday night, when he took a $95 product without paying for it and tried to use a receipt to get cash back.
Store security allegedly witnessed the incident and confronted Burns. When asked about his identity, Burns allegedly gave them the ID and social security card belonging to a Michael D. Simmons.
When authorities pointed out that Burns didn't look like the picture on Simmons' ID, he allegedly told them it was because he shaved.
Upon further investigation, authorities say they discovered that Michael D. Simmons is dead.
Burns was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking and identity theft.
