W. Ky. jail to offer new drug treatment program

Posted: Updated:

HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) -- Western Kentucky officials say a jail in Henderson is one of three chosen by the state to house a new substance abuse program.

The Gleaner reports that Henderson County Judge-Executive Hugh McCormick says the program would involve 50 female inmates at one time being lodged at the jail for six months while going through treatment. He said the state would pay the county to house and treat the inmates, which would help stabilize the jail's finances. He noted it also would help rehabilitate people.

McCormick said the program is expected to begin in March.
