Local man receives honor from Mayor Fisher

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville leader is getting major recognition for his service to the city.

Mayor Greg Fischer plans to present the city's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Award to Ish Burks later today. Burks will accept the honor at a community celebration called "Keepers of the Dream."

Burks is a former Kentucky State Police Commissioner. He has stepped in as Louisville Interim Police Chief, and Interim Chief of Public Safety. He is also an assistant professor at JCTC.

"Keepers of the Dream" is a free community event at the Kentucky Center later this evening.
