LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County is taking a new approach to the death penalty. Newly-elected Commonwealth's Attorney Tom Wine says the office will start looking at several factors, including whether jurors recommend the death sentence.
That means prosecutors will be more selective in seeking it.
For more than 15 years, prosecutors have had a policy of seeking the death penalty in every murder case that qualified for it. Defense attorneys have long complained that the aggressive policy was a waste of time and money.
