OXFORD, Miss. (WDRB) – Pre-game chatter from Kentucky's game
at Mississippi Tuesday night:
*Former Kentucky star Rex Chapman is predicting a UK victory
on Twitter. "Cats will win, I have no doubt," was Chapman's pre-game message.
Chapman said the Rebels' player that he fears isn't Marshall
Henderson, the SEC's leading scorer at 19.2 points per game. It's forward
Murphy Holloway.
Why?
Holloway is a senior – and a brute. Holloway proves it by
averaging 14.8 points and 10.4 rebounds.
Wrote
Rex, "When leading the SEC in scoring while shooting 39% there should be an
asterisk by your name. My fear tonight of Rebs Marshall Henderson = 0."
*I
agree with Rex.
Kentucky
has played in a string of big games. Ole Miss has not. The Rebels are 17-2 and
6-0 in the Southeastern Conference. But their best win? By 15 here over
Missouri. After that?
I
suspect Henderson will come out trying to show a national TV audience that he's
the best shooter on the planet. He averages nearly a dozen three-point shots
per game.
And
he might go wild.
But
I'm predicting he will shoot the Rebels into trouble.
Stay
tuned.
*Plenty of Kentucky fans are trying to get into Tad Smith
Coliseum for the UK's game against No 16, but one common complaint outside the
arena: No tickets for sale. The place seats less than 9,000. Ole Miss needs a
new facility.
*Ole Miss students filled their seats more than two hours
before the game. Steven Shepherd of Oxford and Taylor Goodman of Atlanta were
the first two students into the building. They said they lined up at 1:45 p.m.
*Great line on Henderson from Ron Higgins, long-time SEC
basketball writer from the Memphis Commercial-Appeal: "Once he hits his first
shot, he can't get the next shot off quickly enough. He's like a junkie."
*The Vegas line for this game has been in constant motion.
Started pick ‘em. Then it moved to Ole Miss by 1 ½. Then the Rebels by 3. Then
by 3 ½. Now it appears that it has moved back to Mississippi by 2 ½.
