Part-time coach pleads not guilty to sex abuse

Posted: Updated:

FALMOUTH, Ky. (AP) - A 21-year-old part-time volleyball coach with a northern Kentucky school district has pleaded not guilty to a charge of sex abuse.

21-year-old Cassandra Rose Elfers entered the plea Tuesday in Pendleton County District Court. The charges stem from accusations of an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old student.

Elfers' lawyer, Eric Deters, said his client did not have a sexual relationship with the child, nor did she send any text messages or photos to the teen's phone.

Elfers is a coach with the Pendleton County School District.
