LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says he thinks hemp should be legalized in Kentucky.
McConnell called the crop a "positive development" for the Commonwealth's economy and its farmers. He says he took his stand after talking with Senator Rand Paul, who also supports hemp.
Kentucky lawmakers are considering rules that would strictly regulate the crop if it became legal.
McConnell says hemp production wouldn't get in the way of laws against marijuana.
Hemp and marijuana are the same species, but they're genetically separate.
