New drug allows state to continue death penalty

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Attorney General's Office says the state can resume executions.

A judge stopped all executions in 2010 because of legal challenges brought up from inmates. The inmates wanted the execution method to use one or two drugs, rather than three.

Now a brand drug concoction follows the request.

But defense attorneys say the new rules only ended the argument about the old lethal injection drug, not about resuming the death penalty.
