LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man promising to reopen Kentucky Kingdom will be touring the closed park today. Ed Hart and his team are expected to go inside the park to take a look at how much work needs to be done to get it back up and running.
The State Fair Board recently approved a lease with Hart for 50 years. His group, Kentucky Kingdom LLLP, plans to double the size of the waterpark and add two new thrill rides. The group has agreed to initially invest $45 million in the park, which has been closed since 2009.
Of that, $25 million still has to be secured. Hart says he's ready to take on all the work that lies ahead.
Hart's group is still waiting for tourism tax credits to be approved, which could take two to three months. The reopening of the park would attract thousands of people to the city and create hundreds of jobs.
