LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Amazon and other online retailers may have to start charging sales tax to Indiana customers.
A bill approved by the Indiana House now goes to the Senate. That bill says Amazon and other online retailers must start collecting Indiana's seven percent sales tax this summer.
Amazon and former Governor Mitch Daniels had an agreement that the company wouldn't have to start charging the sales tax until next year.
Some legislators argue that Amazon met its agreement to open several Indiana warehouses, and that forcing the earlier tax collection would hurt Indiana's reputation with other companies.
Others say Daniels didn't have the authority to allow some companies to ignore the state law.
