Yum's first-quarter earnings expected to take a hit

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- KFC's parent company Yum Brands says an expected hit in its first-quarter earnings won't stop it from continuing its expansion in China.

It's a controversy over chicken suppliers in China that could bring down those earnings by 25 percent.  A report in December on Chinese television said suppliers had been giving chickens unapproved levels of antibiotics, in violation of regulations.

Yum CEO David Novak says he's confident KFC will recover in China, although he could not predict when that might be.
