Louisville, Ky. --- A Kentucky National Guardsman will receive the military's third highest honor for valor. Captain Shannon Ison is expected to receive the Silver Star during a ceremony Sunday.
Ison was deployed to Afghanistan in 2008 with the 206th Engineer Battalion. He's up for the award for actions he took while deployed there. The ceremony is Sunday at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville.
