Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana are all positioned to contend for conference basketball titles.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – We're heading into the clubhouse turn in the college basketball regular season – and Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana are all positioned to make their moves for conference championships.
March might be all that matters to some guys, but you're not going to convince me that players can grind through an 18-game conference season without thinking about hoisting a trophy. The best programs take every piece of hardware they can get their hands on.
So it's time to handicap the Big East, Southeastern and Big Ten conference races. I've got one eye on the standings, but it's also wise to look at the schedule. J.D. Lewis, an old-friend from my newspaper days, created a simple but effective plus/minus system.
You give a team a plus-one for every road win. But you take away a point for losing at home.
Here's how the leagues look as the stretch drive kicks in:
Syracuse (8-2): Plus 3 with four road games remaining.
Pittsburgh (8-4): Plus 2, three road games.
Louisville (7-4): Plus 2, three road games.
UConn (6-4): Plus 2, three road games.
Georgetown (7-3), Plus 2, four road games.
Marquette (8-2), Plus 2, five road games.
Notre Dame (7-4), Plus 1, four road games.
Florida (9-1), Plus 4, four road games.
Kentucky (8-2), Plus 3, four road games.
Ole Miss (7-3), Plus 2, four road games (but finished with Florida and UK).
Missouri (6-4), Even, five road games.
Indiana (9-2), Plus 4, three road games.
Michigan State (9-2), Plus 4, three road games.
Michigan (8-3), Plus 3, three road games.
Ohio State (7-4) Plus 2, three road games.
Wisconsin (8-3), Plus 2, four road games.
