LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The effort to redevelop Kentucky Kingdom is well underway. Ed Hart spoke out this morning about initial efforts to reopen the amusement park.
"I'm very encouraged about what we've seen in the park," Hart said. "But obviously there's still a great deal of work to do. We've got over a hundred buildings in that facility that will have to be attended to. And we've got approximately 40 rides that we have make sure get certified and up to our standards of operation."
Hart also introduced his senior management team -- ten people, many of whom have experience in the amusement park business, and some of them who worked with him 20 years ago when he first ran the park.
Hart says he and his team will assess the park for the next 90 days, and afterwards they will decide whether to proceed with their plans, which he expects to do. During that time, he expects to wrap up the $25 million in private financing he needs.
He says the park needs a lot of repairs, but that he and his team have budgeted enough money to clean up the park and make it safe.
Hart hopes to reopen Kentucky Kingdom in May of 2014.
