FRANKFORT, KY. (WDRB) -- Pension reform and the local option sales tax are the legislative priorities of a coalition of mayors and county judges from Kentucky's largest metropolitan areas.
During a news conference at the state Capitol this morning, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer was asked about House Speaker Greg Stumbo's opposition to the sales tax. "At the core of this," he said, "this is about people having a choice in their community. So we feel confident that if we have the opportunity to educate, there'll be a majority of votes to come around to this. And I think Speaker Stumbo will be there, and we'll be in the early stages of our mission here and feel good about the progress we're making."
Fischer says a local option sales tax bill will likely not be introduced until the 2014 session of the General Assembly.
