LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Greater Louisville Inc. -- The Metro Chamber of Commerce -- will host Cultural Awareness Tours to Turkey and Brazil for both members and non-members as part of its global connections activities for 2013. This is the second year for the program, which last year sponsored trips to Cuba and India.
The trips are designed to provide participants with the opportunity to experience different cultural activities, see important historic sites and explore international business climates. There are also business-to-business networking opportunities available for those who choose to participate.
The 12-day trip to Turkey is scheduled for May 23 to June 3 and includes sightseeing in Istanbul and Ankara as well as excursions to the ancient Greek ruins of Ephesus along with trips to Cappadocia, Pamukkale and Louisville's Sister City, Adapazari. The 9-day Brazil itinerary runs from September 25 to October 3 and includes stays in both Sao Paulo, the largest city in Brazil, and Rio de Janeiro. Highlights are visits to Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ the Redeemer, Copacabana Beach, a traditional Samba show and a tour of the rain forest. The deadline to register for Turkey is March 21, 2013. Brazil's registration deadline is July 12, 2013.
Both trips include round trip international flights from Chicago O'Hare airport, arrival and departure transfers, hotel accommodations, daily breakfast, all sightseeing tours, transportation in private coaches and English-speaking guides. Each trip also offers specific amenities based on each locale, including special lunches, dinners and entertainment. GLI sponsors the trips in partnership with Indus Travels.
"India was an amazing once in a lifetime experience," said Curtis Warfield, CEO of Parallon Business Performance Group. "As the global economy continues to change, it is so important that we continue to learn how to partner with new and thriving economies and learn about other cultures. The trip was a 10. We rode camels and elephants, held king cobras and visited the Taj Mahal."
This year, the Turkey trip offers an optional extension package to attend the global business-to-business conference, Futurallia. Representing more than 20 business sectors from 30 countries, Futurallia delivers a rich network of contacts and international business experts focused on the needs of small to medium-sized businesses. Participants will be pre-scheduled for up to 16 one-on-one meetings during the two-day conference. Brazil activities include an optional half-day of networking appointments with local businesses.
"It's exciting to be able to offer our members and non-members alike the opportunity to experience international travel to such fascinating destinations," said GLI Manager of
Global Engagement, Michael Iacovazzi Pau. "It's one thing to read and talk about these places and quite another to actually spend time getting to know the people and understanding their points of view. It is true cultural enrichment that can help us with our work here at home."
For those considering participation in either trip, an informational meeting for the Turkey trip has been scheduled for Thursday, February 21. An informational meeting for Brazil is scheduled for Thursday, March 14. Both meetings will be held at 5:45 pm at GLI's offices located at 614 West Main Street, Suite 6000.
