LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are still searching for a teenager they believe was involved in a shooting yesterday.  That case is now a homicide, and LMPD says the two involved were not strangers.

27-year-old Michael Chester of Louisville was pronounced dead of gunshot wounds at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday at U of L Hospital.

Police say they want the community to help them locate a teen who they believe was involved in a shooting turned homicide yesterday who could be armed.

Police say they need to find 18-year-old Darrell Jackson, the man they believe was Involved in a shooting at the Thorobred Apartments around noon yesterday.

Police say other people were inside the Saddlebrook Court apartment at the time and they believe an altercation led to the event.  They believe Jackson is the only person who pulled the trigger which led to the death of the victim hours later.

Officials describe the victim as a white man in his late twenties who was a known associate of Jackson's.  They need the public to help locate him to bring him in for questioning to find out what happened.

Lt. Barry Wilkerson with the LMPD Homicide Unit says, "Obviously, any situation is very tragic.  The situation is a little different. Obviously, because there were others around, that does make the situation a little more volatile. It's a situation where we're more concerned with the safety of others.  But obviously that's the push we need right now to get this individual off the street and that's why were asking for the community's help."

Police say they cannot go into much detail about any prior record with Jackson due to his age, but they say any individual possibly armed on the street could be dangerous.  But they do think this was an isolated event.

Those who live around the Thorobred Apartments say they are fearful, even in their daily routine, after a man in his twenties was shot to death in the middle of the day on Monday.

"That's the only thing that matters, a young man lost his life over nothing," said Ronald Gall.

Police say they believe 18-year-old Darrell Jackson pulled the trigger that killed 27 year old Michael Chester inside his apartment. Neighbors say his daughter and wife were inside, but police could not confirm that.  Neighbors say the father and husband worked at Buffalo Wild Wings on Dixie Highway

"Only been married a few months, got a three year old baby, kid had everything going for him and now he doesn't have nothing," Gall said.

They say they do not know why someone would do this and they hope the suspect is caught.

"I didn't sleep at all last night, I got up this morning and looked out and it's different, it's strange now," said Gall.

"Somebody gets their life taken like that and you live that close, it's going to affect everybody in the apartment complex."

Police want to get Jackson off the streets because they're hoping he is still in the area.  Anyone with information is asked to call 574-LMPD.

Arrangements for Chester will take place at Nunnelly Funeral Home on Taylor Blvd.  The visitation will take place from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and the funeral is set for Thursday at 11 a.m.
