JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- The man accused of killing a mother of five has been hospitalized.
Ronald Shewmaker, 44, is charged in the shooting death of 32-year-old Lisa McQuirt early on Feb. 18 in Clarksville.
Details on his condition have not been released.
McQuirt's family members say Shewmaker and McQuirt were dating, and Shewmaker had become jealous of her and had been "stalking" her in recent weeks. He's accused of slashing the tires on the Dodge Charger he purchased for her on more than one occasion.
That car was found near the murder scene with all four tires slashed.
A fund has been set up to help pay for McQuirt's funeral arrangements and other expenses. Her children are being cared for by relatives.
Shewmaker was set to appear in court at 2 p.m. today. No word yet on whether that appearance will be re-scheduled.
