LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Workers at the Galt House Hotel are going full speed ahead with some new renovations. The Grand Ballroom and Exhibit Hall, renamed the Grand Hall, are getting a new look with new carpet.
This week, crews have three days to finish the latest improvements. They are taking down the drapes that framed the mirrors in the Grand Ballroom and will replace them with woodworking. The next step is new wallpaper.
In the Grand Hall, new glass security doors are being installed so it can be used as a separate meeting area and will secure exhibits during off-hours.
Galt House General Manager Terry Jenks explains, "We will extend through the balance of our meeting rooms more than likely in '14, but since the Grand Ballroom is the showplace of our hotel, we wanted to do it first."
The update is part of the more than $70 million renovation.
Other planned updates this spring include new bed linens for all the guest rooms and new couches in the Suite Tower.
The Galt House says the renovation will attract more conventions and meetings to downtown Louisville and will benefit the local economy.
