LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Indiana U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly was in southern Indiana Tuesday touring Jeffboat. It's part of his Closing the Skills Gap Tour.
There are an estimated 600,000 high-skill jobs that are vacant across the country such as those at Jeffboat.
Donnelly is working in Congress to pass an act to create more effective training and educational programs to fill those types of jobs. "What it does," he explains, "it targets federal dollars. It doesn't increase the use of any federal dollars so it doesn't mean any more spending, but federal dollars used for education go right toward making sure people have the skills and talents to be able to contribute from day one here at a workplace like this."
Donnelly says it not only helps workers land a job, but helps Indiana attract additional employers.
