LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Senator Rand Paul says the country's biggest problem is the runaway deficit. Today he announced he is doing his part to help.
Paul is returning $600,000 to the U.S. Treasury -- money he saved from his $3.5 million office budget.
"We watch every purchase," Paul said Wednesday. "We watch what computers we buy. We watch the paper we buy. We watch the ink cartridges. We treat the money as if it's our money or your money and we look at every expenditure."
Sen. Paul has returned more than $1 million to the Treasury since he took office in 2011. He says federal employees should receive bonuses for coming up with ideas to save money.
