LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Kentucky state lawmakers have approved a sweeping renovation of the University of Kentucky's Commonwealth Stadium.
The House voted unanimously on a measure that allows some of the state's public universities to spend money on construction projects. Governor Steve Beshear is scheduled to sign the measure into law this afternoon.
The renovation to UK's stadium will cost $110 million. UK President Eli Capilouto released a statement saying, in part, "It signals that we have the confidence of our state's policymakers as we strive to find innovative avenues to earn our way forward. As importantly, it underscores our commitment to putting our undergraduate and graduate students first in everything that we do - from the classrooms and living spaces that we construct to the research space we design and build to embolden our faculty and better equip us to serve."
The projects will create more than five thousand construction jobs and will be paid for by the universities.
