SLIDESHOW: The Prom Project seeks donations

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- An old prom dress can earn you a gift card to Mall St. Matthews this weekend.

The Prom Project is seeking donations of old prom dresses, shoes, and jewelry.  The organization helps local high school students who want to attend their prom but don't have the money to buy a new dress and shoes.

Students contact their school guidance counselor to qualify.  More than 230 students are already in line to get help as prom season approaches.

As Leah Guilford of The Prom Project explains, "It's that one day to get dressed up, feel like a beauty queen, you have your beautiful gown, your hair all done up, it's just a perfect experience. Every girl wants to be able to go their prom and we hope to be able to help them do that."

More than anything else, donations of shoes and jeweler are requested.

Mall St. Matthews will give a $10 gift card to anyone who donates during the Prom Jam event from noon to 4p.m. this Saturday.  It will be held in front of the Express store.
