Victim dies in shooting; officers injured while heading to scene

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Metro police found a woman, dead, in the rear of a home in the 2600-block of Duncan Street Thursday afternoon.  They said she appeared to have been shot.  A homicide investigation is now underway.

Officers responded to a call just before 5 p.m.  Detectives took three people away for questioning; however, no arrests had been made Thursday evening, police spokesperson Alicia Smiley said.  The home is across the street from St. John Cemetery in the Portland neighborhood.

Police at the scene were awaiting a search warrant to gather more evidence.  The coroner had not yet released the victim's name; an autopsy was likely for Friday morning, officers said.

Two LMPD vehicles were involved in a crash with a civilian vehicle as officers were on their way to the crime scene. Three officers received minor injuries. No one in the civilian vehicle was injured
