Ky. man pleads guilty in double slaying

Posted: Updated:

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- A Lexington man has pleaded guilty to fatally shooting two people at an apartment complex in Bowling Green in 2005.

The Daily News reports 32-year-old Gilbert U. Holts Jr. entered the plea Friday in Warren Circuit Court to two counts of murder. He is accused of killing Jamaal Covington and Latasia Kirk on April 21, 2005.

The plea agreement calls for prosecutors to recommend life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years.

Holts was arrested and charged with the slayings in 2011 after a confidential informant gave information to police.

Kirk's aunt, Sharon Jones, says the plea brings a measure of justice for family members.

Formal sentencing for Holts was set for March 22.
