LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a Louisville man was caught stealing mail from various mailboxes in the area of Newburg Road.
Police say witnesses saw a man walking on Newburg Road, near Atkinson Drive, shortly after 12 p.m. on Saturday, taking mail out of several mailboxes. He was described as wearing a grey hoodie, a black vest and blue jeans.
Police responded and found a man -- 29-year-old Andre M. Poynter -- who matched that description, according to the arrest report. Police say he was "dropping mail" as he was walking down the road, and had various mail items hanging out of the pockets of his blue jeans.
The mail wasn't his, according to police.
Police say the mail came from homes on Bantam Court and Newburg Road, and contained checks, bills and "some government checks."
Poynter was arrested and charged with theft of mail matter, according to the arrest report.
