LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Ten local students are being honored as McDonald's Black History Makers of Tomorrow.  Each student received a $1500 scholarship from McDonald's.

Mayor Greg Fischer, along with Louisville's Police Chief Steve Conrad, helped recognize the outstanding students.  Chief Conrad said, "When I see young people like you with nothing but promise and optimism,  I am truly encouraged.  You are our future and McDonald's has recognized that.

Derrick Collins, a Floyd Central High School student said, "I want to stay dedicated to helping other people because it's really what I feel like I do best, is helping others."

Students were selected for their promotion of diversity, character, academic achievement, and involvement in the community.
