Controversy over alleged racism in comment about Sen. McConnell's wife

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Conservatives are firing back at a liberal group in Kentucky for tweeting about the ethnicity of Senator Mitch McConnell's wife.

Progress Kentucky tweeted: "This woman has the ear of @McConnellPress - she's his #wife."  "May explain why your job moved to #China!"

Progress Kentucky says the group wasn't being racist, it simply wanted to highlight McConnell's jobs record.

McConnell's wife Elaine Chao was the former Labor Secretary and the first female Asian-American to hold a cabinet post.

McConnell's campaign manager says is it unacceptable to use "race-baiting" for political gain.
