LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man is in trouble over what police say he did for his girlfriend's birthday.

According to an arrest report, Jerimey T. Leslie, age 33, was caught shoplifting at the Kroger store on Taylorsville Road, near S. Hurstbourne Parkway, Wednesday evening.

Police say he had taken $42 worth of food items.

Leslie allegedly said that "he stole the items because it was his girlfriend's birthday, and he wanted to make her some food, and he didn't have the money for it," police say.

But officers say they found money in his pocket.

Leslie also smelled strongly of alcohol, and allegedly told police that he'd consumed "several" beers that day.

He was arrested and charged with theft and alcohol intoxication, according to the arrest report.
