Bill to change domestic violence law in Ky passes Senate panel

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Couples who don't live together, including minors, would be able to obtain protection from abuse orders under a bill that has cleared a Kentucky Senate panel.

The bill would add the term "dating relationship" to the state's domestic violence law.

The sponsor of the bill said Kentucky is one of three states that lack civil protection for couples who are dating or have dated.

The relationship has to occur within the last three years for one to request the protective order.

The bill has already passed the House, and now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
