LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)---Clarksville Police have made an arrest in a Saturday morning homicide. Police charged 49-year-old Richard Hooten with the murder of 17-year-old Tara Willenborg.

Police say around 3:20 a.m. her body was discovered inside her apartment, located at 702 Camden Court.

Willenborg's father tells WDRB that her fiance made the discovery when he returned home from work.

When officers arrived, they found the 17-year-old unresponsive in the bedroom.

Her father says she's a former Jeffersonville High School cross-country athlete and had just received her GED two weeks ago.

He says she recently moved to the Cambridge Square apartments, and had just started a new job. He said things were looking up for her, until this happened.

Meredith Henderson lives across the hallway from Willenborg.

She also knows the man who police have charged with the teen's murder, 49-year-old Richard Hooten.

"Yea...he was a friend," says Meredith Henderson.

When WDRB's Tamara Evans asked her if he knew other people in the building, she replied "He knew me..that's about it".

She says she's only known Hooten for a few weeks, but saw him yesterday before the time of the crime.

Police didn't elaborate on how Hooten met Willenborg.

"They just had an acquaintance. I think they had just met recently," says Detective Darrell Rayborn with Clarksville Police.

Police say neighbors mentioned his name after the crime.

"We did receive information of this guy and we were just looking in the area hoping he'd be around. We knew he left on foot," says Detective Darrell Rayborn.

He was picked up less than a mile away on Eastern Boulevard for outstanding probation and parole warrants.

He's now been charged with murder, although police still aren't saying how Willenborg died.  Her family is hoping for answers.

Police aren't commenting on whether Hooten confessed to the crime.

Hooten is behind bars in the Clark Co Jail.

His family declined to comment for this story.
